Do new laying pullets lose a little weight once they start laying?

i would not think so at least i have never noticed. My understanding that chickens lay well when they have enough food not only to support their growth and daily activity, but when they have excess of nutrients to deposit into the egg on almost daily basis. Any noticeable weight loss would suggest lack of feed. Just a guess.

I'm not actually sure she's lost weight tbh. She just kinda looked a little smaller to me so I wondered if that happens with new layers. My husband said she looks the same so maybe it's just me being weird.

If you're really concerned I'd weigh her and you'll have your answer.

I admit I was surprised when I weighed my flock and found out who was heaviest. It wasn't the two biggest birds, rather it was the squat and wide one. :D
