New laying hen has something wrong with her neck

I just bought these 19 week old hens ready to lay last week. Today I noticed one having problems with her neck. I did a video, I'm hoping the link works, she suppose to be vacanated against mareks disease. She seems healthy, eating, drinking, and still gets around. She also started laying beautiful solid eggs. I looked at some videos online and non that represents Mareks disease doesn't seem similar to her. I'm not sure if she may have been injured during her transportation to our island. It would take a whole day crammed in these crates to get here. Another one I got had a sore on her back. Here's the link. Looks like she's adjusting her crop. I'm guessing she ate a bunch just before you saw her.

It's possible she has a crop infection but I wouldn't worry about it just yet. Check her crop in the morning to make sure it's empty, if it's still full you might have a problem.

My hen did this exact thing, your hen has sour crop or a crop infection. You can pick her up and hold her upside down for only maximum 15 second at a time, if a sticky syrup like liquid comes out she as crop. See if some comes out and then get back to me and I can help you out.

I will check her in the morning and see if her crop went down. I went out tonight and felt her crop, it's about the size of a golf ball and soft and squishy. My other girls are much smaller. I noticed her eating a lot of oyster shells today. Thanks for the replies. I never seen a chicken move their necks like that before, I never considered that it could be her crop.

Her crop this morning wasn't completely flat. It soft and squishy. Not that big. Smaller than last night. It feels a bit gritty. Her poop was runny like more water in it. I'm not comfortable to try to flip her over and empty out her crop. I did that with my rooster and he aspirated and died. I think maybe giving her another day and see how she is doing in the morning. I read about giving nystatin. I will go and pick some up. She still was moving her neck this morning. I'm hoping this might work itself out.

I know this sounds bad but try smelling down her beak (you will know if it's bad or not). If its smells horrible then it's sour crop.

I have never had a problem like this over the 10 yrs I've had chickens, however, what I did was use hay this time instead of straw and they were eating it. The girls are inside the coop right now, put lime on the run to give it a break. I'm thinking maybe the hay is what is causing the problem. I did try to empty her crop, hardly anything came out. I didn't smell anything bad. I had some antifungil cream I've seen other use. I gave her some tonight just incase it's sour crop. Thanks for the links.
