Hi, I’m very new to chickens. Last year, my brother in law got 3 chicks, and while he has been the main caretaker, I’ve helped and researched about them. We currently have 2 mixed breed Easter egger hens, 1 leghorn rooster, and 3 chicks (🤞 more hens, please!)
We live in a nice rural area, and mostly got chickens to eat the byproducts of my bro’s microgreens business, but might someday expand our operation to be able to sell fresh eggs with the greens.
I like to garden, sew, crochet, read, learn about native plants and animals, and watch TV. I’m a wife, mom and stepmom, reluctant homesteader (while a wood stove is cozy, it’s a lot of work if it’s the only way to heat your house…), environmental historian, Christian, endometriosis-haver, and cat lover. Thanks for being welcoming!

Welcome to BYC, LiseeLou! There is so much to see, do, and learn here!:welcome Environmental historian sounds interesting. What do you study? :)
My senior thesis was about portrayals of charismatic carnivores in wildlife film and how it had changed from 1953 to 2013 😄 I only have my bachelor’s degree (so far), so it’s mostly a hobby. My favorite subjects are the histories of food (especially culturally important ones like pineapples, corn, and potatoes, “Botany of Desire” and “An Edible History of Humanity” are great) and the histories of diseases (“Rabid” is an awesome book, as is “Ghost Map”). It’s a very wide field, and pretty new, there are so many amazing aspects to it.
