As of last night, we were faced with some unexpected circumstances that we couldn’t leave alone... someone in the community bought chicks for this last Easter and became overwhelmed as they grew, and neighbors complained, and were far from prepared. Having raised fowl and birds or flight before, we felt that we could maybe step in seeing as how we were their “last hope” before letting them go in the desert (very VERY small town without any kind of rescue and humane society) From what I have gathered, they are at least a few weeks old?? (I’ve never raised chickens, only *raised/rahabilitated* pheasant, Raven, killdeer, and long billed curlew.) from what I’ve gathered online, they appear to be between 7-10 weeks? But they are all different breeds, so I am not positive individually. I have 3 overall— *1 Rhoad Island Red, *1 Buff Orpington, *1 Barred Rock—. I’ve searched high and low to try and figure out their age and their genders, but with their genders I’m finding it very difficult. I feel like the Barred Rock could be a cockerel based on what I’ve read online about females carrying the double-bar gene and appearing darker: still not positive though; especially on the other two breeds. Any advice on how to tell would be greatly appreciated, as I would love to give them the best possible life accordingly. I am happy to post pics/videos (if I’m able I to.) Thank you so much!
P.S. SUPER impressed by the uplifting community! I’m so used to negativity and hateful remarks online for simple intentioned questions, that this site has become a welcoming breath of fresh air and somewhere I actually enjoy reading the ‘comments’ section ❤️.

Chickens can be pretty hard to sex until they are a lot older, but i might be able to help :) Roosters tend to grow larger and more prominent combs and that could be an indication of the gender. I have heard that people sex them by looking at their wing feathers, there are plenty of threads on here discussing it. I know its not a lot to go on but good luck!!!!!!! :celebrate:thumbsup
