Well it has been 24 hours and so far all the new chicks are still alive.... I am a nervous wreck! We were originally planning to get 12 chicks, then I convinced my hubby that we needed 18 in case some died.... then when we went to pick them up, we picked out 22... then the guy threw in 3 extra in case of mortality.... NOW WE HAVE 25! (I know, I know= chicken math

Anyway I dreamed all night long that bad stuff happened to them, only to wake up this morning and every single one of them was fine!

Realistically- how many usually make it? I have done everything I can to make sure they are safe, warm, properly aired etc.

Anyway just thought I would share my chicken experience so far... I honestly didn't think they would all make it the first 24 hours, but I don't want to get over confident.

SHEESH- I think I have chicken brain from all this fun

SOOOO cute. Well as time goes by you will calm down . I just recently did my first hatch and i do the same thing with mine! No casualities and they are goinf on three weeks - never did this before so i get the nerves. They do say however that you might have a few nothing major - but they look healthy to me from the one pic! Good luck!

Sounds like you are doing a GREAT job to me. STOP worrying so much and enjoy your chickies! Not everyone looses chicks. It just seems that way cause they are the ones that are posting. If everyone posted that they didn't loose any chicks, you would probably relax and enjoy them more. I haven't lost any of the 16 chicks and 3 ducks I bought. And I didn't loose any of mine last year either. RELAX! It will be OK!

Oh ENJOY mama. EXPERIENCE THE FLUFF. this time will pass soon enough. We have or will lose a chick, that will happen eventually. But have fun, do your homework and use common sense. It's really fun and addictive.

They're adorable. And you will be fine. Of course, you'll worry anyway. Thank goodness for BYC! Every time my have done something out of the ordinary I rush to the forum. But seriously, it does get better with time. Pretty soon, you'll be passing on your own knowledge. I only have four, but managed to get them to a year old with no MAJOR issues
