Hey y'all, introducing myself from Arkansas! I am a chicken lover dating way back to Easter 2014, whew, I've been at this for a while.

No, really, this past Easter my sweet mother-in-law brought my son three red pullets. I was raised about as city as this small town can be so it was a brand new thing for me to have chicks in my kitchen! My husband actually enjoyed raising them so much that when they got to be old enough to go outside and didn't need us as much he surprised me with 6 new barred rocks! We have tons to learn and tons of questions every day. I am so thankful to have BYC as a resource!

Welcome to BYC!

Congrats on your new Barred Rocks! I brooded up a few Barred Rocks babies this year too. They are 7 weeks old and growing fast. Can't wait to get them into the rest of my flock and laying!

Enjoy your new babies and we do welcome you to our flock!

Thanks guys! Although, I cannot say that they are getting along! The barred rocks are quite a bit younger and smaller than the reds and my first attempt to introduce them ended in quite the scuffle... So I've got them in a cage in the run with the big girls. I'm open to try anything that makes these girls get along! Is it just going to be better to wait until they are bigger?

Just keep the cage around the big girls so they can see but not touch. They'll get along in time.

When should I try to let them out again? Will they work it out? Will the older ones kill the smaller ones? Sorry to bombard you haha! Worried about those babies!

I would let the smaller ones out within a few weeks time. The longer the better. The big ones probably won't hurt the little ones if they are close to the same size.

Hello and welcome! Yes,keep them apart like Mountain Peeps said. The seeing but not touching helps once the babes are bigger.
