What a blessing to have an instant flock of friendly hens!
Here's the location of Henderson's Handy Dandy Chicken Chart:

I find it invaluable for breed information. Another, with pictures, is feathersite.com but it is linked right off Henderson's Chart pages, so you can see photos of breeds.
You will not need to compost kitchen scraps any more, as those are wonderful treats for chickens. They should be fed feed, but the scraps are extra treats. Just compost the chicken poop and coop litter for the best garden fertilizer EVER.
Chickens are also relaxing... Watching them do their chicken things is what we call Chicken TV. Their antics can make you laugh, too. All good for your health.
Plus, each chicken has its own personality, which you will get to know.
Every bird but the young juveniles in my flock is named; I wait for their personalities to emerge before I name 'em.
BYC is the perfect place to come for information, assistance, reassurance, and just to communicate with other chicken folk. I have a great many friends I've never met, now!
