Welcome to BYC. Do not be surprised if your hens stop laying for a bit. Very frequently the stress of moving to a new environment causes this. They will lay a couple of eggs that are 'in process' and then take a break for a bit.
Thanks for the warm welcomes.Hello, Tom, and welcome to BYC!Glad you joined.
Did you convert the bus yourselves?
WOW!! Cool! You did a great job on the bus!!! I can't wait to see the coop! Thanks for the warm welcomes.
My wife and I did the bus conversion ourselves. And yes,we live in it, but not necessarily adhering to the letter of the law. The bus has:
1200 watts solar on roof
5 220 ah 12 volt batteries
150 gals fresh water
150 gals grey water
100 lb propane tank
Composting toilet
Full size gas range
Queen bed
2 closets
Tiled shower
Lots of storage
Enough about the bus, although if anyone is intersted in more details pm me.
Back to the chickens.....I did get a second egg today but it was busted up like it was smashed. I will look into that now and hope for a steady stream of eggs soon, i would love an omelette this weekend.

Are the eggs hard shelled?Another broken egg this morning.
Yes. I think i am going to post this in a different area of the forum. thanks again for all the greetings! Are the eggs hard shelled?
Greetings all, new member Tom here. First post. First chickens. And today our first egg.
I built a chicken tractor from old redwood and miscellaneous material found on the property where my wife and I are renting space for our 40 foot converted school bus home.
I picked up 3 birds yesterday, all Specked Sussex. 2 layers and one pullet.. They are doing great and after work today I found out first egg! Yeah!

I need to do some more work on the roof, but for now it is safe and secure. The coop is 7x4,and the plan is to let the ladies out after work for some outside time. I will be reading much here and will most likely have questions down the road. Have a great week!
