Hello,
I am a longtime reader, but a new member of BYC. After reading much interesting and valuable information I finally decided to join this great community.
I was raised with chickens. As a very young child I assumed the responsibility of caring for the chickens. I loved my charges, and it was not uncommon for my mother to catch me with a favorite or two sleeping in my bed at night! She would just remove them and place them back in the coop as soon as I had fallen asleep.
I have been a city dweller for many years now, and therefore without chickens. Now that my husband is retired (5 children raised, 12 grandchildren mostly raised), we are heading for the country again...and chickens! I am moving from Ohio to a small homestead in Indiana. We searched for just the perfect place for our new beginning, and finally found a 5 acre parcel that we thought was the perfect place. It is located in Elwood, Indiana and after signing a contract on the property we learned that there are laws prohibiting chickens in Elwood!!
I have been doing much research, and cannot find any current information on this subject (everything seems to be a couple of years old). I would appreciate any information that anyone can provide to me on this matter.
I would like to have some other farm animals again, but the chickens are my priority. I will be absolute heartbroken if I cannot have a new flock of feathered friends in Elwood.
I look forward to reading more of the valuable information that is shared on this site. I also enjoy seeing the friendliness of the community.
Thanks so much for letting me be a part of BYC!

p.s. A lot of things have changed since I was taking care of chickens as a child. I am learning many new ways of doing things!
