Hello! My name is Jessica. I’m not new to this page but I am new to posting on it. My family has a hobby farm with cats, dogs, goats, sheep, “mini” pigs, fish, an emu, and all types of other birds.

I’ve had chickens for about 12 years now and I pretty much like to collect all breeds because I love their diversity and getting to know more about them. I could sit outside and watch my birds for hours. ❤️

Aside from chickens, we also have turkeys, geese, pheasants, Muscovies, and an emu named Charlie who thinks he’s a dog. I used to have quail and a few peacocks but the quail stressed me out and the peacocks decided they wanted a new home one day and just took off. My emu still loves me though! 😅

Unfortunately, after an amazing run of 12 years, I believe I finally have Marek’s disease in my flock, so I’ve created an account to seek advice.

I look forward to getting to talk to many of you.

So sorry about the possible Marek's. I was all set to give you a happy emoji until I spotted that. I hope you get great advice and support, Jessica.

Aside from the potential Marek's, it sounds like you have a lovely menagerie, and I can't imagine why your peacocks didn't appreciate you! Charlie clearly recognizes a good home when he sees one!

Please keep us posted on what's going on. Maybe it's not Marek's? I once had a really good vet who told me she thought one of my birds had it, but she didn't do actual testing. Turns out, she was, thankfully, wrong.

Hello Jessica and welcome to BYC! :frow

Your flock sounds lovely! I am so sorry to hear you may have Marek's in your flock. :hugs It sure is becoming more common. Have you added any new birds lately? Marek's can also be picked up from the environment as well if you live near any of these large chicken egg farms. Dander blows on the wind. Hopefully you can get the advice you need here on BYC.

Welcome to our community!
