New member. Coop advice please

Hi everyone. It’s our first time with chickens and could use some advice. We have ourselves 12 hen chicks, about two weeks old. Our main problem is our yard is very sloping. The only place that’s flat gets very soggy when we have any rain at all. We don’t mind a temporary fix if need be. Anybody have any creative solutions on how to raise them in the side of a hill lol?

Hi Welcome! I think that buying wood planks might work if you built the wood up and then the chicken coop on the wood. Like where the hill is lower, build the wood higher and where the hill is level and high, build the wood level. It’s hard to explain, but basically make a wooden base and fill it with gravel. Then put the chicken coop on top. I actually did this with mine somewhat and it worked! Hope you can find other ideas!

Hi Brian, a steep hill makes building a bit trickier but it can be done. Here is an example of a member that built on the side of a hill: kansas-city-backyard-coop-and-retaining-wall.72098. And another example: high-country-hen-house.66626

Those might be more than what you were looking at, but hopefully give you some ideas.

Hi, welcome to BYC! Using poles like you are building a pole building and then a level deck on the poles works good. You can build you coop on the deck making sure the deck is level in all directions. Thanks for joining us.
