Any thoughts about what breed this is? My kids gave me 4 chicks as a mother's day gift. I am in search of more information on how to best care for them. Thank you in advance!

:welcome! That's a little cockerel, and it may be an Ameraucana, or it may be an easter egger.

I agree

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have an Easter Egger cockerel. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hi and Welcome to BYC.

Hope you are enjoying the new flock.

If you haven't already done so, I would suggest raising the water fount and getting a full size feeder - also raised. They are ready for grown up things :)

Thank you for the warm welcome! I am a very inexperienced chicken tender, but I really enjoy them and can't wait to learn more! My granddaughter (5) loves looking at them, petting them and bringing them grasshoppers she has caught for them. I am off to the feed store today to get a bigger feeder and some kind of hook to hang the water up. I am also told I need to have a roost of some kind.

I do have another question……two of the chickens are crowing, does that mean that they are both roosters or do the hens in this breed also crow?

You're welcome. If two of your chickens are crowing, it is a safe bet that they are both cockerels. Hens do crow on very rare occasions, but it's virtually always an older hen who has taken over the role of a rooster in a roosterless flock.
