New member, First attempt at hatching-day 19-day 22, a sad ending

yes me too, I have 14 pullets RIR, 3 cochin banty roo's and one RIR cockerel i think.....

...I want to be able to hatch out replacements...and I really want cooper marans....

Well, day 19 started this afternoon. Candled the eggs and I think 4 of the 7 left look promising. I left all of them in there just in case. Now comes the hard part! I just hope at least a few hatch.

Well, last night we opened up our eggs. Every last one were drowned!!

I feel horrible! We figured out that it was due to a faulty hygrometer. I'm so upset. I feel that I dropped the ball. DH keeps telling me that it's not my fault and I know in my head that's true. But, my heart is breaking for those little fuzzy butts.

Yes, I have some Delaware eggs coming from Shortcake1806 the end of this week and I am also collecting more of my Buff Orp eggs. We will try again!! I am extremely sad but this just makes me more determined to get it right!!

We are also going to be adding fans to our bators as well as purchasing new instruments. Hopefully, we'll have a happier ending!

So sorry!! It's happened to all of us and I know what you mean by feeling bad and guilty. I try to learn from my mistakes and do my best the next time. Still gonna' have some losses.

I really believe more chicks are lost to too high humidity and drowning than any other way.

I don't pay attention to my humidity anymore until the first pip. Then I raise it to 50-55%. My hatch rates have gone up a lot since then.

Get back up on that horse....

Yeah, I agree with oldtimegator, I don't even worry about humidity. I don't put any water in until hatch now, lost too many to drowning

So sorry for your bad hatch. I too just had a bad hatch and I am so excited to start trying again this weekend. Here's hoping that we both have better luck this time around!!!
