Wife overlooking the little EEs when we first got them. She was hanging clothes and watching birds.

About a month ago, they are so much bigger

My daughter and her massive sunflower

She's nutty

Fuzzball

Flapwings

Flapwings got much bigger, he's a good looking roo already.

two of the 4 little ones.

one of the new EEs, you can't see the missing butt feathers, but still nice looking bird.

I love the look of this bird.

One of the Buff Orpingtons my wife picked out.

The other Buff she picked, this is a really good looking bird.

This is Osprey, I WILL be breeding this bird, she's gorgeous even with the missing tail feathers.

Wow! What a sunflower head! You're birds are gorgeous, and you're right, they are Easter Eggers, not pure Ameraucanas. EEs are my granddaughter's (pictured in my avatar) favorite hens. She loves their colored eggs. Osprey is a beautiful EE. She is colored much like the bird of prey after which she is named.

My daughter apparently has a green thumb and is natural with animals. She absolutely LOVES the chickens and has her own flower garden. We didn't help her much at all with it, and you see that sunflower, and her zinnias are booming. She's going to be a great helper on the farm.

Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Your daughter's life will be more enriched for it. Good luck with your farm, and your daughter.)

She seems to understand and be ok with the fact that were about to take the 4 cornish x chickens and put em in the freezer. That was the part I was kind of worried about. But we've never sheltered our kids from reality. Even after growing up on a farm it's still not easy for me to take the life of animals I've spent so much time with. But I do it because it's part of life, I take solace in the fact that these chickens actually got to live a life outside the chicken house.

That's good. It's surprising how quickly children adapt to the necessity of butchering farm animals for food. Not long ago we were watching Alaska: The Last Frontier (on netflix), which is about a family that homesteads in Alaska. In one scene, they killed and butched one of the family's cows. My first thought was, "Uh oh! How is my 6 year old granddaughter going to respond to this?" She took one look at the butchering process and said, "Yummmm! Steaks! Roasts!" My wife and I were really surprised, so it just goes to show that you never know how children will respond.

I enjoy that show. She's been asking "can we eat it?" About every new animal she's seen.since she was two hehe. But now it's about to get real come tomorrow.

My flock grew by 12 this weekend. I got two more Easter Eggers, 3 Light Brahma, 2 Speckled Sussex and 5 Buff Orpingtons. So now our flock is to 21. Happy happy! I let my wife and kids pick most of them, but the Easter eggers I want a lot of color so I picked those two. I love my flock. I still have a ton of work to do for them such as make the fence even more safe for them, get that coop finished and get some bigger feeders and waterers. But they are enjoying the space for sure. I really enjoy the light Brahmas, not only are they beautiful chickens, but are VERY docile as well.

This LB really gets along with my daughter well.

Pretty girl!
