New Member from MA

I currently don't own any chickens, but am looking into starting my own mini-flock this spring. I've perused some of the forums here and decided joining may be helpful in finding what I'm looking for.

What I'm looking for (if this is at all possible...): A somewhat local to MA chicken breeder as a humane alternative to buying from a hatchery (I've seen some horror stories of the policies of many hatcheries). However, where it gets tricky is that I'm looking for sexed chicks since my soon-to-be husband does not want roosters and I don't have it in me to "raise them for the table."

If you try your local craigslist you may be able to find a breeder who knows how to vent sex or raises a sex linked breed.

You can look in the Buy sell trade section too, often BYCers will be selling chicks/chickens/eggs and they'll almost definitely have been raised in a humane way!
Or you can check out Chicken shows/meet-ups section and see if you can attend any of those.

Thanks! The Craigslist and MA BYC Threads are both great suggestions! We don't plan to get any chicks until early spring time, but I want to know as much as I can before hand to be prepared about purchasing/raising chicks/caring for hens.
