Hi everyone,

I'm here looking for guidance to get set up for some chickens.

I'm looking for about 4-6 hens. I've pretty much decided on BO breed from doing a lot of reading, but I'm open for suggestions and advise.

I'm in the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities in MN and it'd be nice to find a local breeder.

I'm trying to narrow down a coop design and want to build it this spring.

We've got about 6 acres and want the chickens to be free range as much as possible, but I know that I'll need a secure chicken run as well.

Thanks!

Hi, Keegan, welcome to BYC. Click on 'The Learning Center' located at the top of the page. Then go to the forums and study and question away. Good luck in establishing your flock.

Hi Keegan and welcome to BYC. In addition to the learning centre, your state thread is worth joining as you will get to know other BYC members in your area and they may be able to point you in the right direction for your desired breed. (just type your state in the search box). In fact, the search box should become your best friend

Lastly but by no means least, the members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

All the best

Thanks everyone! I'm working my way through the two big Minnesota threads. Over 25000 posts in those two threads alone!! Yikes.

Feels like the only site I'll need for getting ready!

Thanks again.
