Hello Everyone!
Your site keeps popping up when I do an internet search for canning, and since I own chickens, I thought it might be a good thing to join ya'll!
A little background, I've owned chickens for about 10-12 years, starting with about 10 Bantam chicks someone forced me to take home one day LOL Then about 2 years later, someone else gave me a roaster and a very tame rooster, and a few more hens, including a Rhode island red. About 3 years ago I figured my chickens were getting too inbred, so I procured a few green eggs, put them under my best "momma" and that little bantam hatched those giant eggs, the chicks at 2 weeks were bigger than momma. LOL
About a year ago, I got a weimariner mix puppy and she "thinned" my number chickens. Sigh.
Right now I have a bantam rooster and a hodge podge of hens for a total of 8
They are free range during the day and roost in the coop at night, so, our puppy is now nocturnal LOL We only let the puppy run at night LOL
We've had a mild winter here in southern California, so the hens have been laying all winter. We get about 3 eggs a day.
I'd like to build up the number of hens again, but really need to figure out what to do with the puppy. LOL I managed to train 5 other dogs to leave the chickens alone, but that bird dog, just won't comply LOL
Thanks for listening
