My wife and I retired a little over a year ago and bought 30 acres of (mostly) wooded property in Kaufman County, Texas. Among the buildings already on the property were a couple of "run down" chicken houses and an unserviceable fence.
So far we know absolutely nothing about raising chickens. We have been purchasing our eggs (free range) from a local farm and paying about $4 per dozen for what I would class as medium size eggs.
Since we "more or less" already have some of what we would need to start raising chickens and producing our own eggs, I decided to spend some time researching what to do and when to do it so I don't become simply a chicken "death-trap."
That's my reason for being here and hope I can read enough to be able to ask some "intelligent questions" in the coming months.
