Hi and welcome to BYC! We're so glad you joined us! If your coop is draft free I think your chicks would be fine, and adding a huddle box is a great idea.

Hi Quarantine Homesteader. I live in Florida. Been raising chickens for 3 years. I have found the most incredible advice on this forum on emergency situations. I lost my first flock of chickens to predators and not being alert. I let my chickens and ducks roam free. Which of course a hawk came down yesterday to prey on them. No losses though. Wishing the best with your new flock JulieHi all! A friend gave us her coop, which started us down this amazing rabbit hole of chicken raising! We are learning as we go and are looking forward to gaining knowledge from more experienced chicken owners!
We are a family of 4, living in a suburb of Denver, CO. We have a friendly cockapoo that is fascinated by the squeeky chicks. We are excited about this new learning adventure!
We currently have 10 chicks that we were told at least half would die. So far, they’re all happy and healthy and growing strong! They’re getting too big for their brooder, but with the nights in Colorado still getting down to the 40s, I’m not sure if we should take them outside yet. I read that it needs to be above 65° or they have to have lost all of their baby down feathers. Every morning when I go out to check on them a few are perched on the edge of the box. They’re in the garage, so they’re safe if they do get out, but I’d rather not have 10 chicks roaming the garage!
