Thanks everyone we are happy to be here and will improve our predators protection methods. We really need to find some kind of sensor that would illuminate a light in our house if the coop open but that's my next search on this forum.

A bit of an over kill for a Raspberry Pi, just a simple magnetic door switch and a LED would work to remind you to close the door. But then you could have the Raspberry Pi play a wav file at dusk each day saying "Close the Door" over and over until it is closed.
