Hi, I just adopted two 3 month old Armeicuana hens to befriend my 10 year old "lap" rooster. Weird story, but ten years ago my friend found a chick that someone had thrown in a trash can. He raised it up into a rooster named him Roi and the two were inseparable the entire time. That friend passed away unexpectedly last year and I took in his rooster. He's been living with me for a year, and last week I finally introduced him to a couple of young ladies. So far he has pretty much ignored them but next week I'll let them all meet without a cage in between.
I'm aware of the normal ratio of 8-10 hens but not really an option where I live on about 1/100th of an acre. He's unbelievably affectionate and would gladly sit in my lap all day.
They have a coop made from a 6'x4' Rubbermaid shed and they have 7'x20' of dirt/straw area. My roo I let into the rest of the yard when I'm home, but my plan is to build a chunnel around the outside wall so that they can explore more, but also stop them from sneaking into the house.

This is their yard (before it had chickens), the wall on the left is my bedroom so it's very easy to keep tabs on them. Also, the morning rooster crow is about 6' from my ears...
