Hey everyone,

My next project for my grandkids is a chicken coup. The only thing I've not yet decided is to get pullets now, or wait until spring when the weather warms up.

I thought we'd get 6 heritage Rhode Island Reds, and 1 Blue Bell and 1 Americauna. This so we can send "Easter eggs" home with the kids...so their breakfast will always be a little special.

We live in NE Florida so our winters are cooler than the peninsula, but just as hot.

My grandparents had two industrial chicken houses, so Im somewhat familiar with yardbirds, but I'm sure I'll have many questions.

Hi Jim, it's nice to have you here with us! It may be a bit difficult to find chickens this time of year but in the spring, you'll have a wide variety to choose from. Check out the buy-sell-trade forum as a possible source.
Buy ~ Sell ~ Trade

Best of luck!

Hello, Jim, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I would spend the winter building a very well ventilated coop on high, draining ground with an attached run with a solid roof to help keep the run dry. Use 1/2" hardware cloth to keep out the predators. Focus on the best housing you can. THEN get chicks or started pullets to raise in the spring.
