I guess while i'm right here, is there an explanation to the little cricket chirp I hear every once and a while? I'm guessing just a chirp of contentness? Like I said, i'm totally new (for the most part) to owning chickens, and I am just curious.

Chickens are non-stop talkers. They are just working out what they want to say!
Yes, I would say they are content. If they cheep non-stop they are cold.
