Hi, I'm new-ish to chickens and my name is Cindy. I live in Fort Valley, Virginia and my husband had chickens when I married him 3 years ago. :) I have been learning a lot as I go but there is so much I don't know still! We allow our small flock to free range and it's sometimes stressful for me because of predators (mostly foxes) who've taken quite a few of our hens since I got here. Now I watch them like a hawk when they are outside. I have one Speckled Sussex rooster and two Buff Orpington hens, two Red Comet? hens and 1 Barnevelder. I probably need more hens but I am adding slowly to avoid stress. I love my chickens but I am having a little trouble with George (the roo) and the Barnevelder hen. I posted that issue earlier so I'm hoping to hear back from you guys! The roo will not leave the poor hen alone and she is my oldest girl. She is terrified of him since he bit off half her comb! :(

Hi Cindy, welcome to BYC! I'm sorry your having troubles.
How old is George? If he is relatively new, he may be trying to take charge by putting your older hen in her place. Unfortunately, he may do more harm to her and even kill her. I would seperate them. I don't know how attached you are to him but he isn't good breeding material.
Best of luck with your flock!
