Had chickens for about 10 years. Currently have 46 hens, 5 roosters, 5 chicks. Mixed breeds, Brahma, Jersey Giant, Rhode Island and New Hampshire Red, White and Light Brown Leghorn, Columbia Rock, Gold Lace Wyandotte, Salmon Favrolle, and Australorp.
Like the company of the flock as I go about the day working outside. They are fun to watch and I enjoy their varied personalities. The neighborhood kids really love the chicks. They help keep the bugs under control and do a good job weeding. I sell the eggs which are very popular.
Since retiring I keep a small hobby farm with orchard, vegetable garden, and grapes. Reclaiming a field for small fruits. I sell at the local farmers market. I like woodworking when I have time, cooking, preserving, and above all spending time with my wonderful dog.
