Hi. Member from the UK here. Have been keeping chooks on and off for years now. Trying to live a relatively sustainable lifestyle, and my chooks are doing a grand job of being my compost makers! And providing eggs of course. We've got 10 hens in an outdoor compound about 30ft x 20ft, with a stable type outbuilding that they use as a home, along with a separate good sized coop I built for them. I put down locally collected horse manure and bedding, along with grass cuttings, uncooked veggie scraps and garden clear-up greenery (I grow mainly perennial veg, so plenty of green leaves) in one half of their run which they turn over for me and which I will pile into a compost cage every month or so. They'll then dig it all out for me and within a few months I have loads of good compost! In the other section of their run I place boards and logs which I move regularly because the bugs build up under them. This area is perfect for their dust baths, etc.

Hi @LouloubelleHMC , and welcome to the BYC community! :frow

Do you have some pictures of your hard working chickens? We always love to see flocks of our new members.

Why is it that you would pull your hair out? Maybe we can help you with whatever makes you attack your hair, so it would stay where it belongs: on your head. :D
