I do have a suggestion that isn't often mentioned in chicken keeping circles despite the immense practicality of it. Wear a tight fitting hat when dealing with chickens. Given you are in the UK the weathher alone should discourage the removal of said hat and this will certainly reduce the oppertunitites yanking out your hair when you come accross those frustrating chicken issues.
