New member: This looks like a great site to learn about chickens.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
CANCEL THE ORDER!! If the advertising said the coop was good for 6-8, the coop itself will be good for 2-3 and the run will be good for 1 or two depending on the design.
A shed to coop conversion is a great idea. That's what I did and I love it.

Welcome. You already got good advices/links from a few great members. Check this one for sure:
.....

Another advice is to use hard ware cloth with small openings. 1" is great to keep the chicks in and keep the predators out. Sure the is an article about this. After the chicks grow up maybe you can let them free range part of the day. IMO the run size you planned is quit small yo keep 8 chickens locked up all day.

Hello and welcome to BYC! This is a great place to learn and share your chicken adventures. I agree, cancel the TSC order. I hope you did your homework with your town and are clear on ordinances covering chickens. Not all communities are completely open to embracing chicken flocks. Since you are already aware of your local predators, don't forget about the little ones such as weasels and pesky rodents. You'll need 1/2 inch 19 gauge hardware cloth for that. Best of luck with your new flock.

Thank you so much for sharing your shed to coop renovation and run. Wow what an amazing job you did

. It is magnificent!! A chicken country club! Your chickens are lookers. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I will hire someone to do a shed/coop combo with attached run but on a smaller scale (6-8 chickens).

Thank you so much. Yes our town is great with chickens and I will be using the hardware cloth you suggested. I have a brooder set up that a neighbor is loaning me. I washed it thoroughly with soap and water and 10 % bleach solution. My chicks will be a mix; one of each: Barred rock, Buff Orpington, Cinnamon queen,Black sexed link, Easter Egger, light Brahma, Wyandotte one silver with black and one gold with black. I hope the will get along. I ordered them from our feed store in town. They have a great reputation. We live in Massachusetts. They only carry chickens well suited to our climate. You are so right about the rodents. One of my friends in town years ago had something ( he thinks fisher cat or weasel get into a tiny opening and oil all his chickens.
Thank you so much for your help. I am very excited about the chicks!!!
