New member: This looks like a great site to learn about chickens.

Hello, and welcome to BYC! It's nice to meet you! :frow
What breeds are you getting? You'll need a brooder to house them in while you're building the coop.
Good luck and have fun with them! :)
I have ordered Barred rock, Buff Orpington, Cinnamon queen,Black sexed link, Easter Egger, light Brahma, Wyandotte one silver with black and one gold with black. What do you think of my choices?

Welcome. You already got good advices/links from a few great members. Check this one for sure:

Another advice is to use hard ware cloth with small openings. 1" is great to keep the chicks in and keep the predators out. Sure the is an article about this. After the chicks grow up maybe you can let them free range part of the day. IMO the run size you planned is quit small yo keep 8 chickens locked up all day.
The run I am planning ( will be built by a friend who has chickens: he is a contractor) is 10 x 10 ft, 6 ft high. Is that not enough for 8 chickens?

Awsome breeds light brahmas are in my top 10, same with wyandottes. oh and welcome to BYC
Thank you for the warm welcome. It is so hard to choose, they are so many wonderful breeds. We are a family of 3, Mom, dad, and a 17 yo son. The guys are big eaters. I love to cook. I am promising creme brûlée on a regular basis. The brahmas sound great.

I love Brahmas soo much they are are friendliest chicken and soooooo fluffy, be warned they are likely to go broody
Thank you so much to everyone. Wow what a friendly and informative group! This is so helpful to have so many seasoned chicken folks for help. So much to learn. Its a bit overwhelming.
