New Member with a first-timer question

Welcome. When I googled wing bands I found many past threads of people dealing with these. It sounds like those who removed the bands felt that it hurt the chicks quite a lot. Sounds like removing them just involves prying them open....

:)welcome!

Well, here's what my DH suggested. Have one of us hold the chick. Using his wire cutter things (the small ones) clip through the band as close to the wing as possible, then just the length of the band that is already in the wing will have to pass through when we pull it out. Smart man, I'd say. The clips are about 1/4" long (folded) and so at least that much would have to pass through the wing if I just opened them and pulled. Not to mention the bend from the "fastening" part of the band. I'll post the results when I get them done today. Thank you everyone for helping me out. BTW, the hatchery person I spoke with was misinformed and told me the bands were around the wing, not through it. Sounds as if the office needs to consult with the barn.
