New Member with a question

Hi all, my girlfriend is already a member but I thought i'd join the community too.

I have a question that I hope someone might be able to help with,
We have 4 chickens (3 in my avatar picture, the other is camera shy). We got them 15/May/14, all were laying fine but now the white hen (Sussex white I think) stopped laying about 1 week ago. She seems happy enough & we have checked to see if egg bound. All the others are still laying fine, any ideas?

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Lots of things can cause birds to stop laying from the hot summer temps, not enough protein, health issues. They can also be laying them out in the fields or they can even be eating them. You might want to check out this link on why my chickens are not laying...

Thanks for the reply. Interesting reading, I'm not too worried at the moment as she seems happy & content. She didn't lay as frequently as the other 3, only 1 or 2 eggs a week & they were alot smaller than the eggs the other hens layed. I will double check for mites, lice etc, just hope it's nothing serious.

X2 on the link Two Crows gave you. Stress, lack of feed, calcium and water can all contribute to less laying.

Welcome to BYC, hope you figure out what your white hen is up too. You never can tell with chickens. Maybe she plans to run off and join the circus - just kidding

She has started laying again, just fancied a 2 week holiday I think. She's now making up for lost time, laying every day & huge eggs too!
