I had one lonely little chick. Hatch out in my incubator. I couldn't find any extra chicks exactly her age so she just spends a lot of time siting on my shoulder. (my 3.5 year old son says she is a pirate parrot. she likes to clime up on my shoulder to site but while she is up there she keeps garbing my ear ring and trying to rip it out and she pecks at my eye lashes. How do I gently train her out of this before she gets big enough to hurt me :) She is only about a week old rite now.

All you can do is keep her off your shoulder. And I would definitely try to get her some friends. They don't have to be exactly the same age, within a few weeks is fine. She'll be a much happier chicken with a little flock of her own kind.

I agree get her off of you before you loose an eye or an ear. If you keep putting her off and saying No, maybe it will sink into her chicken brain. Put her on your lap each time she climbs higher.

I had one of my chicks on my shoulder and she pecked my eye really hard and I ended up at urgent care. It hurt!! I know it was not her fault as they like shiny objects but we have a no chicken on shoulder rule now!! Be careful.

I have been working on trying too keep her in my lap. if I put my hand over her she will eventually settled down and even look like she is going to take a nap but as soon as I take my hand off she runs right up to my shoulder. I have been thinking of making a sort of perch for her next to my chair. I did have 7 bard rock chicks hatched the week before. My American snuck in when my Bard rock was laying and laid an egg. So when This one hatched I gave it 2 days to get strong then took the smallest chick from the bard rock and tried to put it with this chick. unfortunately the bard rock chick kept attacking this little guy. So then I started looking for chicks that were the same age or a little younger But couldn't find any.
I did find some one a couple of days ago with Cayugas ducklings that are less than a week old. I am them up on Monday so hopefully that will work.
