Hi, Welcome to BYC! I had a hen that had 21 ducklings one time You may ask how did this happen . The answer is , she had help another hen was sitting on the same batch of eggs in the weeds yea! side by side on one nest . I guess they figured they were safer that way and ok with each others company . When they came out of the weeds with all those ducklings all I could say, well kiss a pig check this out Dad !

Aren't runner ducks just the most entertaining, adorable things? I started with four, discovered that I have a tendency to choose ducklings that grow up to be drakes (3 out 4), and started the never-ending task of trying to get the hen-to-drake ratio just right. Today, there are three drakes and eight hens. Seems good.

Don't you just love their unique gait? And, their inability to clear even two-foot fences (well, most of the time)?
