I am planning of putting in a chicken coop big enough for only 3 - 4 chickens. Big round Orpingtons are what I am planning on housing ( love them...they are like basketballs with legs!!) Any suggestions on what size coop I sould invest in?

Orps are large fowl so they require at least 4sq feet per bird. I would advise at least the 16 sq feet maybe more to give them some extra room.

Thanks! If I have an enclosure large enough, do they still need to free range? I am a neewbie to all of this,,,so excited, but am nervous about my dogs.

Hello and welcome to BYC [IMG] About 10sq feet per hen to roam will be good, more if you can.

[IMG] from California, only allow your chicken out to roam if your dogs are secured so they can't get to them.
