Howdy! Not particularly new to chickens but, boy, did we have a spooky moment last Friday!
My wife and I like to sit out and visit with the chickens late afternoon when things begin to cool. So Friday we are sitting with them and some of the neighborhood birds screeched and split. About the same time, rather than typical chicken/predator behavior we have seen (squawking, etc.) they every stinking one of them, a dozen, froze in place at the same moment. They did not move a muscle! They began a quiet sort of cooing or trill sound without moving. This continued for over a full minute.
We are in E. TN. If I were in Cali I would be wondering about a quake. There was no sound my wife or I could discern whatsoever. Honestly, I was waiting for the mother ship to come down and giant chickens to step off!

Then they abruptly, again synchronized, just went back to their snacking and normal behavior.
Guesses?
