Hatching
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I got my first twelve chicks February 2014. I lost two last summer. Added fourteen chicks April 2015.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 24
(3) What breeds do you have? White Leghorns (4); Rhode Island Red (1); Silver Laced Wyandote (2); Black Astrralorp (1); Buff Orphington (2), these are all 17 months old and good layers. Ameracuana (6); Black Sex Link (6); Buff Orphington (2), these are all Pullets about 19 weeks old. I got my first two pullet eggs, one tan, and one greenish-blue.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I found this website last year when I got my first set of chicks.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Scrapbooking, card making, photography, sightseeing.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am permanently disabled due to an incurable illness. My husband and I have been married for 39 years, this past January 2015. He will retire this September. We have a married daughter with four girls. We had a son who was killed by a drunk driver, he left behind one girl and two boys. His ex-wife and widow both remarried and each had another child that we claim as our grandchildren. So we are blessed with nine total. Six girls and three boys. They are the joy of our lives. We have a small farm in Northern California. We have one American Paint horse, four Alpine Goats, three cats, and one dog, who is my buddy, her name is Abby.
I immensely enjoy the antics of the chickens. Our Pullets are just starting to lay and what a surprise to see a blue egg in the nesting area. This is way too much fun. My friends and family are enjoying the benefits of my chickens also.
