Hello! I'm Heather from near Newnan, GA. I've been reading posts from this site for a long time, but I decided to join so I can interact with others in my area and partake in some of the discussions as well as to buy/sell chickens.
We have been raising chickens since we purchased our first baby chicks in November of 2015 and we scooped up the neighbors chicken that she neglected and ran loose in our yard. She gave her to us when we got the babies.
We now have about 23 chickens including 1 rooster and 2 cockerels. We have Black Australorps, ISA Browns, Plymouth Barred Rocks and mixed breeds (from our Plymouth Barred Rock rooster). We are looking to rehome our Plymouth barred rock rooster (2-3 years old) and one of the cockerels (from the barred rock roo and an ISA brown hen), because we have too many roosters. It has been very stressful on the hens.
We stumbled across this site a couple years ago in google searches as we learned how to make coops and make our runs safe. We have found a lot of the information on this site very useful over the last two years.
In addition to backyard chicken-keeping (all of our chickens are named and are considered pets), we love to experiment with hydroponics. I love almost any type of gardening from vegetables and fruits to flowers (both annuals and perennials). Thanks for taking the time to read!
