Any suggestions on where to order the best brooder or how to make one and what type I'll need. Any articles available for me to read up on?
Hello there and welcome to BYC!
Quail are very tiny, like bumblebees at hatch. I use jelly jar lids with pea stone in it so they won't drown. You will need to crush the food nearly down to powder so they can eat the first week. And show them where the water is by putting their feet in it when you first put them in the brooder. Sprinkle crushed food on a paper towel next to the feeder and tap with your finger so they know to eat it. Quail need a lot of help at first.
Heat off to one side, food and water on the other. 4 sided brooder and solid floor. Do not cover the top with anything but screen or wire.
I like to use infra red or plain red for quail, white lighting is too excitable. Lay a thermometer on the floor directly beneath the heat lamp, start them at 95-92 deg. Lower the temp by 5 degrees each week.
Good luck and enjoy your quail!!![]()
