Welcome to BYC! I hope you enjoy it here, lots of information everywhere! A dog would be a great addition with your chickens if you can convince your husband. I have a pit bull that was already 2 years old before we even got chickens and he thinks he is their personal body guard, anytime any chicken starts scawking he goes and checks .dogs really help out with predators too. I haven't seen a raccoon or opossum in years.

Words of advice:
Get chickens from a reliable source!! ALWAYS quarantine new birds for at least 30 days. There are some diseases that you can never get rid of :-(
But most of all, have fun ^_^ ask questions! Enjoy your chickens whwn you get them!!
