What were your experiences like raising Charolais, temperament wise? Have you ever raised any other breeds? We are looking into cattle in the next few years and so far thinking Hereford but still debating!
What kind of horses do you have? Would love to see photos of them! Oh, and also BackYard Herds (BYC's sister site) has a small horse community that would love to here more about your equine friends, myself included!
I've never heard of Farm Dog competitions, I'd love to learn more about that and how you've come along training your dogs, especially to chickens. It's a cute story to read that now you're getting chickens of your own after that!
Would love to also see photos of the flock and that old barn as you work on it! Oh, you mentioned gardening- BYC's other sister site called The Easy Garden is awesome too! Give it a look!

My Charolais gave me no problems aside from occasionally breaking through the fence. They are slightly aloof but could pet them if wanted and if I had food. Charolais are the only cattle I had and they are rumored to be tough. Cut the boys at 6 months and used A.I. so no bulls.
Raised Thoughbreds for race/show and show Quarter Horses for 30 years. Really was my love and we raised as many as 20 foals a year and stood two studs that had full books. Closed the breeding operation down 12 years ago and stopped showing 10 years ago. Currently have 6 horses that are retired and turned out to live their golden years.
Purchased a Border Terrier 16 years ago. Wanted a good one and one the conditions was that I had to show him. Well what a find. Opie broke records all over Europe that probably will never be broken. With me showing him, he was top five in the nation for several years which is hard to do as the shows are very political. He was that great. Unfortunately Opie passed last year at the age of 16 years.
With the success of Opie I raised Border Terriers for 10 years raising many champions with multi working titles. Currently have one Boxer and one Cattledog that I am showing in working events.
We have massive amounts of gardens.
Most of these photos are in the past 15 years. 12 years ago I got diagnosed with RA so have been forced to cut back. No more riding my horses, gardening gets difficult, and no more breeding dogs. It is still a wonderful life and have just cut back to what I can handle.
Go to AKC and you can read the rules/obstacles for farm dog. It was loads of fun. Any breed of dog can enter.
My chicks are coming in March. They will be my first and have a feeling a great old lady project. We are going to start the coop/run when the snow is gone and a bit warmer.
And that is my life........hope this is not to long and boring. The folks on this site are wonderful and so full of knowledge. Will check out your other sites. Thanks Mary Jo

@Fillymj - First off, what BEAUTIFUL photos you have posted. I was particularly caught by how snazzy and well built the Quarter Horses are. I grew up with an Impressive granddaughter who was such a wonderful mare, and also at one point a Pepe San Badger..grandson I believe? We mainly had Spotted Saddle Horses though.
Be extremely proud of your accomplishments with not only your horses, but your wonderful dogs as well. Opie was a handsome fella, and the achievements he gained were amazing! I am so thankful you've shared his story and those of your other pups.
I am extremely amazed by your gardening and how well arranged it is in those photos! I can barely grow seeds for vegetables let alone such beautiful flowers. And please, don't feel as if this is boring! Getting to know folks is half the fun of welcoming them here!

Don’t know why some of the pics flipped. Love Peppy San Badger, what a horse. Trained a few saddlebreds for basic manners. Never got into that breed but can appreciate their beauty.
Soil, Soil, Soil then water and anything will go.
How many chickens do have homesteaderwife?
