(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have had chickens now for 3 years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now I have 10 hens and 2 Roo
I had 30 hens. However in the last 3 years, the Hawks have decreased my flock. And just 18 days ago a Mink got in coop and and killed 8 hens.
I have a game cam in coop so I can see what’s going on.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have Rode Island Reds
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I enjoy the birds. Maybe to much. They are very intelligent and give me a supply of eggs for me and my family. ( I do not sell the eggs)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Camping, and following my son around with his mega mud truck. ( playing in the mud )
I just retired a year and a half ago and spend time working in the yard. Outside things are my goals.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am newly retired
from a state highway maintenance where I was a supervisor for 26 years.
I am a mother of 6. ( 1 girl 5 boys) they are all grow and on their own. I have 12 grandchildren. 1 is a special needs little angel. He spends a lot of time with grandpa.
Right now I have a long haired Chihuahua who is 8 years old. I lost my choc. Lab a couple years ago.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC searching topics on chickens on youtube.
I like the site info. The asking questions and reading all the advice has helped me in raising my birds.
I joined because I have questions I thought I could get help with from more experienced bird folks. I will post a thread.
