Hi everyone -

I just joined because I'm reallly worried about this lone duck in our area. We have lot's of ducks in the area and I noticed a bunch of them - male and female - picking on another female duck this week. Now I see her a lot all by herself. What can I do to help her? I read ducks get depressed and lonely and I'm sad for her. thanks for the advice

Hi Crista, welcome to BYC. I'm not much help with ducks, but someone here, will have some ideas.

Welcome Crista. If these are wild ducks, the best thing to do is just leave them be. It may sound cruel, but they have their ways and having us stick our noses in them is often times more destructive than helpful.

I know it's hard, but nature favours the survival of the fittest.

If you think the duck is injured or sick you can call a waterfowl rehabbers in your area or the DNR and see if they would be willing to help or give you info on who to contact. When a duck is sick or injured the others will attack or try to keep it from joining the group because sickness or injuries will draw predators.
