Chirping
Good morning,
My name is Dave and I guess I am a chicken dad now. Been reading through BYC for about 6-8 months now, decided to join.
Inherited 5 girls (leghorns) and 2 roos (Rhode Island Red and Americauna mix) when my BIL passed away. Had to trade one of the Roos, because they did not get along. Traded the roo for 2 pullets (black sexlink and a sapphire Gem), added 3 more hens (Americauna, and a pair of barred plymouth rocks I think - I am sure my better half knows what they are, but, they are grey and white stripped so I think they are BPRs), and now I have 10 eggs in the incubator from our own flock. They are going to be our own barnyard specials I guess.
Had backyard chickens for about a year now, even made it through the winter in Ohio. We lost one last fall to a racoon when they were free ranging, that racoon is no longer a threat to our chickens. we do have a 50 x 50 fenced area, and a 10 by 20 fenced run for them, and still allow them to free range (fenced in).
I guess that is about it, looking forward to learning how to raise this chicks if and when they hatch. Have 12 days left before hatch day. Candling shows 9 of 10 are viable at day 9. Will check again in a few days and if it there is still no indication in the 10th one will pull it.
Thanks for letting me join.
