Hi Chicken Lovers!
I am new to raising chickens. We have 8 Buff Orpingtons - all ladies. We bought them from our local feed store as chicks. On one particularly cold day we lost electricity. This meant no heat lamp for the 8 babies. I carried them around inside my sweatshirt for several hours until the electricity was restored. We bonded. Obviously, these are not chickens being raised for meat. We will eat their eggs as long as they lay them and then provide them with a happy life until they go to chicken heaven.
We have a small animal sanctuary in New Mexico and are animal lovers. The chickens (and a female turkey) add a lot of energy and fun to our rescued goats, potbellied pig, dogs and cats. We really love the fowl.
So, I am looking forward to getting information and advise from the rest of you chicken folk.
