Hello everyone. I'm James and quite new at raising chickens. I built a coop last year and got my first chicks this summer. Last night I ordered a dozen bearded silkies and I can't wait to raise them. Only two of my first six chicks turned out to be hens and one of them is already laying

did you order straight run(unsexed) silkies? Silkies are very hard to sex before 4-5 mos. of age - sometimes you don't know till they crow or lay eggs. They are beautiful birds tho. Put "silkie thread," in the search box and it some pop with with a few threads. Show girls are a variety of silky and you may want to explore them also.
