Hi I have read forums to get answers for questions I have had and decided to join. I have a question now and it is I had a hen get on the nest where one is sitting. There was a chick hatched and this hen has pecked on its head and back towards the tail. I have it in my brooder and it is chirping, opening one eye, and moving around. It is not walking and has drank water off my finger. I just applied neosporin to the wounds and want to give it a chance to live. What else can I do? It's legs are not broke but it is not up walking. Please help it is fighting to live and want to give it a chance. I am going to try and post a pic I took of it.

I'm very sorry about your chick. You will want to post on the Emergencies forum about helping it https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures You might try to give it something like pedia-lyte with an eyedropper/medicine dropper, and vitamins like poly-vi-sol. X2 keep the wounds covered with Neosporin. As bad as the wounds are, it may have internal injuries which is why it is not walking, would also think it is in shock and just weak in general, I would give it a chance to recover quietly by itself, be sure to have the brooder warm enough. Good luck with the poor baby.
 
It is the only chick right now. Had 7 chicks hatch almost 2 weeks ago and they are in a different brooder. I told my husband I am gonna give it a chance as long as it wants to fight. I plan on keeping neosporin on it. Thanks for the advice.
 
Ok I can get to the forums but can't figure out how to post a new thread to ask others about what all I should do. Can you please help
 
If you click on the link above, it should take you to the Emergencies forum... just under the header ( Emergencies etc written in red letters) on the left side there should be a blue box that says "Start A New Thread"... the same blue box should be at the end of the list of threads on the page also.

Poor chick. How is the baby this morning? Among everything else recommend here by the others, you definitely want to give this one some high heat to recover, and keep it from going into shock. So something around 100 degrees is best.

I hope this little baby pulls thru. Keep us posted, and again, I am so sorry.
