Hello all! I live in the Black Hills of SD with my husband and 7 years old daughter, and I am an RN for the local health care organization. I am new to backyard chickens although I grew up spending a large amount of time on my Grandmother's farm and I have many fond memories of helping her care for the animals. We decided that it was time to utilize our property and raise some of our own food, as well as give our daughter the opportunity to learn about animals and where food comes from. I purchased 5 Barred Rock, 5 Rhode Island Red, and 5 Black Australorp pullets and we are enjoying learning how to care for them and watching them play an develop personalities. I found out about backyard chickens on Facebook and I cannot wait to learn more about the community!
