I am new to raising chickens but my husband is not. My name is Donna and I live in Indy. I am a nurse and want to make sure we raise Healthy Chickens and eggs. My husband is at this monument building a new coop. Thanks for helping me.
 
Welcome to Backyard Chickens. Have you decided if you want chicks, or started pullets?. Do you have any particular breeds in mind? If you are planning on birds now, older birds would be much better going into winter than baby chicks.
 
I want a couple of Silkies and Have no clue which ones my husband is getting but my husband said we can put them together is we raise them all from chicks.
 
Generally when raised together from chicks silkies/bantams and full sized birds get along quite well. Introduction of smaller chickens or new chickens to an established flock is frequently fraught with problems.

You have come to the right place for all the fun and leaning! Sourland X2 Adding to a flock is a bit rough. So it is best to get all the birds you want and raise them all together.

Welcome to BYC, Donna. Glad you decided to join our flock. Sourland and TwoCrows are correct. It's definitely better to raise the birds together; all the more so if you're going to try and raise both Silkies (which are bantams) and standard size breeds in the same flock.
