Good morning. I am new here and so tickled as my june chicks have started laying:D i have had chickens before.. But my husband has not. yesterday was the second day of laying. I had gone out eariler to check for eggs and found nothing. Sent the hubby out later... He returned with a huge smile. And an egg... " is it still warm'?" I think she just laid it.." She was still sitting there'. Ahhh his excitement was priceless! Like a kid in a candy store:). We live in northern minnesota.. So i was hoping the cold and short days wouldnt keep them from laying til .spring. We have 2 RIR. 2 Buff orp.2 americana. 2 plym.rock.... And a duck..who thinks shes a chicken:)...

Hello and welcome to BYC! It's such a nice surprise, getting that first egg, isn't it? Congratulations! We're having a pretty mild winter here in Ohio so far. Does Minnesota get very cold and snowy?

Take care and glad you joined where you can share the excitement,
Sharon

Congratulations on the first egg!

Hi Sharon( chickmom:)). Thank you for the welcome. Minnesota can dish out some not so nice winters. Last winter was a rough one lots of snow 3+ feet snow( way to much) and average -20 below! Hard winter not only on us But the poor wildlife! The deer numbers are way down.... And ive even noticed ..we have no lil snow birds or chickadees this year:(. Thankfully this winter has been a bit more forgiving... Thus far. Havnt really dropped below zero. And only light dustings of snow. Hope it continues this way. Makes for a much more bearable winter;)

Wow! I better type faster :) thank you all for the warm welcomes!:love

Congrats on that first egg!! Always Egg-citing to find those first eggs. Still after all these years I enjoy finding those treasures in the nest boxes.

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!
