I am a new member. I have a silkie too that has lost almost all of his feathers. What do I need to do to help him?

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

He might be molting. Or he has parasites. Or other chickens are pecking at him. Whatever the case, protein is very important. Foods with high protein content are very good to feed chickens missing feathers since feathers take up 85% protein! If he is bleeding, you need to isolate him from the rest of the flock so they don't bully him and make things worse.

Here are a couple links to check out too

Welcome to Backyard Chickens :welcome If the others are plucking out his feathers, maybe you could buy some no-pick lotion and give the other chickens some enrichment, like treat balls or extra free range time so that they won't be bored enough to pull his crest out.

Hello!

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to joined the BYC family. :frow
Good luck with your silkie!

Do you have more than one bird? Are the others pulling out his feathers? Have you checked him top to bottom for lice/mites. How old is he?

i looked for mites/lice but didn't see any. He was with other birds but I quarantined him yesterday to see if that will help. He is around a year old.
